Digicel BVI completes LTE network rollout

12 May 2017

Digicel British Virgin Islands (BVI) says it has completed its 4G LTE network rollout and now offers coverage to over 99% of the populations of the islands of Tortola and Virgin Gorda, the two most populated islands in the BVI. The firm also advertises coverage in parts of Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke and Anegada. BVI News reports that the upgrade work included the construction of 14 new cell sites, as well as an upgrade to existing 4G base stations and backhaul networks.

Digicel BVI’s General Manager, Kevin Gordon, commented: ‘Now that our LTE network is complete, our focus is network optimisation to ensure our customers are always having the best experience possible to stream, play and share more with today’s technology.’ The cellco launched LTE services in January this year with an initial 74% population coverage, while market leader Flow switched on its own LTE and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks in November 2016.
