11 May 2017

Vietnamese mobile operator VNPT-Vinaphone has expanded its 4G LTE network to the province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The company switched on the country’s first commercial LTE service on the island of Phu Quoc in Kien Giang province in November last year, having been awarded an 1800MHz 4G spectrum licence by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) one month earlier, and the network was subsequently expanded to Binh Duong province in March 2017 and Ca Mau (April 2017). Going forward, VNPT-Vinaphone aims to install 3,000 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) by the end of this month, with a total of 15,000 4G BTS planned for deployment nationwide by the end of 2017.
