German regional telecoms operator M-net has deployed G.fast networks in Hasenbergl and Harthof, two districts of Munich. Digital Fernsehen reports that the new service offers maximum broadband speeds of 300Mbps, although this could increase to 1Gbps in the future. Munich-based M-net’s fibre-optic network infrastructure currently covers around 350,000 homes in the city, with a further 30,000 expected to added to the footprint by the end of this year. By 2021 M-net and its majority shareholder Stadtwerke Munchen (SWM) are aiming to cover 70% of Munich’s homes and business with fibre-optics.
