NTA grants Ncell LTE network permission despite PAC protests

8 May 2017

After a long-running application process, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has finally granted second largest cellco by subscribers Ncell permission to launch a 4G LTE network across the country, reports The Himalayan Times. The move from the NTA to grant Ncell permission to offer 4G is not without controversy however, as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has advised the NTA against awarding the cellco a 4G licence until it has paid its debts owed to the government in relation to Telia Company’s sale of its Nepal operations to Axiata. Despite the PAC’s protests the NTA has allowed Ncell to begin a 4G LTE rollout using the 900MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands from 1 June 2017.
