UPC Switzerland, the country’s leading CATV provider, has extended its reach in the municipality of Einsiedeln (located in the canton of Schwyz), following the acquisition of WWZ Telekom’s fibre-optic network in the village centre with retrospective effect as of 1 April 2017. The harmonisation of UPC’s existing fibre-optic infrastructure in the area and the newly-acquired metropolitan grid will provide customers with a strong offering and high-quality network infrastructure, UPC said in a press release. Urs Reinhard, UPC’s Vice President Strategy, also commented: ‘The acquisition of the network in the centre of Einsiedeln now means that all the residents can benefit from our innovative products and services. The move finds us extending our high-performing network even further and thus serving more customers on a direct basis.’
TeleGeography notes that UPC has extended its footprint in recent years via no less than 17 acquisitions since 2012, including the takeovers of municipal fibre networks operated by Genossenschaft der Gemeinschafts-Antennenanlage Euthal (completed in January 2017) and TeleOnex (February 2017).
