VEON, ZTE sign virtual infrastructure global framework agreement

21 Apr 2017

Multinational telecoms group VEON (formerly VimpelCom) and Chinese technology heavyweight ZTE have signed a global framework agreement on network function virtualisation infrastructure (NFVI) and virtual evolved packet core (vEPC). Under the agreement, ZTE will become a supplier to the VEON group for NFVI, deploying large scale NFVI as well as vEPC networks in several countries, including Russia, where VEON operates under the Beeline brand. ZTE declared in a press release that the cooperation ‘will effectively promote VEON’s NFV strategic planning and digitalisation initiative’. Network infrastructure virtualisation increases the efficiency of operators’ resource management and network maintenance, whilst also making network operations more flexible.
