Chilean telecoms group Grupo GTD has strengthened its position in Peru with the acquisition of Netline Peru for an undisclosed sum. Netline operates a fibre-optic network with a presence in Lima, Moquegua, Arequipa, Trujillo and Chiclayo, and primarily targets SME and corporate-level customers with a portfolio of services including dedicated access, interconnection, managed security and fixed telephony. GTD General Manager Alberto Bezanilla commented on the takeover: ‘Our decision to invest again in Peru is based on the current economic conditions we see in that country, and on the great potential we have seen in this company, thanks to its attractive client base and portfolio of products and services that are added to our existing business unit in Peru.’

GTD already has a toehold in the Peruvian market via its Lima-based GTD Wigo division, a joint venture with Grupo Romero. Wigo offers public Wi-Fi, as well as a full suite of business-oriented services, including broadband access, VoIP, managed Wi-Fi and data transport.
