Azercell continues to expand network

Leading Azerbaijani cellco by subscribers Azercell has announced that it increased its number of base stations to 5,211 across the country, with the total comprising 2,796 2G sites, 2,141 3G sites and a further 274 4G base stations. In a press release the company went on to state that it had upgraded the capabilities of 1,894 of its base stations, strengthening its position as Azerbaijan’s wireless market leader. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Azercell currently covers 79% of the capital Baku with 4G LTE services, and was the first operator in the country to roll out its 4G network in June 2012.
