VimpelCom officially becomes VEON

31 Mar 2017

Russian-backed, Amsterdam-based, US-listed telecoms group VEON secured shareholder approval to change its name from VimpelCom Ltd to VEON Ltd on 30 March 2017. From today (31 March) the company’s American Depository Shares will trade on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the symbol ‘VEON’. The group plans a secondary listing in Amsterdam next quarter.

The change of name to VEON represents what the company calls a repositioning from a mobile-focused telecoms operator to a ‘global tech player’, with VEON also being the name of the group’s new ‘personal internet platform’ which integrates data analytics and artificial intelligence, providing advanced messaging capabilities, enabling users and communities to connect by voice, text, picture and video.
