Midco, the US cableco that is co-owned by Midcontinent Media and cable giant Comcast, has announced that it has introduced 1Gbps broadband speeds for the first time, in Fargo, North Dakota. Midco President and CEO Pat McAdaragh commented: ‘This is a monumental day in Midco’s history. Due to our state-of-the-art network, we’re launching ‘Midco Xstream Gig’ to 16 communities in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo area.’
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Midco revealed plans to deploy a Cisco-built DOCSIS 3.1 network back in August 2016, although its provisional late-2016 launch date fell by the wayside. Midco serves more than 300,000 cable customers across 335 communities in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Previously known as Midcontinent Communications, the cableco was renamed Midco in January 2016.
