Cuba’s state-owned telecoms operator Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba (ETECSA) has announced the prices it will charge for its planned residential fixed broadband offering, following its two-month free trial of the service. 14ymedia reports that 30 hours of ‘Nauta Hogar’ home internet access will cost between CUC15 (USD15) and CUC115 for connection speeds ranging from 128kbps to 2Mbps.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, ETECSA began piloting fixed residential broadband connections for around 2,000 users in parts of Old Havana in December last year. The trial of ADSL technology took place over a period of two months in the Catedral and Plaza Vieja areas, following which the monopoly telecoms operator will offer the users the opportunity to subscribe to the service on a more permanent basis.
