Proximus, Belgium’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, has claimed that it has become the first cellco in the country to deploy 4.5G technology. The rollout is now underway in Antwerp, Charleroi and Ghent, and customers with compatible devices will be able to access download transmission speeds of up to 450Mbps very soon. Going forward, Proximus and Samsung are said to be working together to create 4.5G-capable handsets for customers.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in November 2016 Proximus became the first cellco in Belgium to test 5G technology, in conjunction with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei. The trial reportedly yielded download speeds of up to 70Gbps.
