Italian broadband provider Fastweb has announced that it is preparing to extend its in-deployment Gigabit fibre-optic network across the whole of Milan by the summer of 2017. The network, which was switched on in the Garibaldi district of Milan in December 2016, is expected to reach 50% of all Milanese homes and businesses by April, with city-wide coverage available by the summer. Federico Ciccone, chief marketing and customer experience officer at Fastweb, commented: ‘Fastweb was born in Milan 18 years ago, and it is from here that [we will launch] our national plan for 1Gbps speeds in 30 Italian cities.’
