Internux (Bolt!) targets 1.5m net adds in 2017; plans 450 new BTS

23 Feb 2017

Internux (Bolt!), the Indonesian 4G wireless broadband unit of PT Mitra Mandiri which is itself majority owned by First Media, has reported having 2.8 million subscribers as of January 2017 and set out its stall to add a further 1.5 million this year as it looks to shake up the high speed internet market with its ‘Ultra BOLT’ 4G LTE offer. Product development manager Billy Abe Kala says that to help drive take-up, Bolt! is looking to strengthen its network reach through the building of a further 450 base transceiver stations (BTS) – augmenting the 3,600 BTS on air at end-2016. Mr Abe says that the company’s LTE coverage already extends to 98% of the Greater Jakarta area and will be boosted to 100% as a result of the latest expansion drive, delivering peak throughput of up to 300Mbps.
