NetCologne, ZTE sign strategic partnership for GPON and G.fast

17 Feb 2017

German regional network provider NetCologne, a subsidiary of GEW Koln which offers advanced telecoms services in the greater Cologne-Bonn area, has entered into a strategic partnership with ZTE of China for the joint development of GPON and G.fast technology platforms. The pair hope to enhance and improve network quality and user experience for NetCologne customers by developing the service provider’s current VDSL and fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) network infrastructure toward a GPON network with G.fast technology. In a press release, ZTE confirmed that while GPON will be used as an uplink technology, G.Fast will be installed to expand NetCologne’s existing FTTB infrastructure to achieve bandwidths of up to 1Gbps.
