Cablenet selects Oracle for network upgrade project

17 Feb 2017

Cypriot ISP Cablenet, which offers DOCSIS3 services in the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus, will deploy Oracle Communications’ full suite of IMS and VoLTE capabilities – including Oracle Communications Unified Session Manager (OCUSM) and Oracle Communications Evolved Communications Application Server (OCECAS) – to simplify network design, deployment and operations. Following the upgrade, Cablenet will be able to accelerate its IMS rollout and converge its disparate fixed and mobile access networks. In addition, the OCECAS will enable Cablenet to accelerate its VoLTE rollout and will simplify the implementation of future services like voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) and voice-over-LTE (VoLTE).

TeleGeography notes that Cablenet secured LTE-suitable frequencies in the 800MHz and 2600MHz bands in July 2016 by bidding EUR5 million (USD5.3 million) for the spectrum. The company, which currently offers mobile services via its MVNO LemonTel, is expected to launch commercial services over its own 4G network in 2017.
