TelOne hopes to recover USD165m of debt in 2017

Zimbabwe’s state-owned fixed line operator TelOne says it recovered USD123 million in debts during 2016 and expects to bring in a further USD165 million this year. A report from New Zimbabwe says the firm is owed USD271 million in total, including USD92 million by businesses, USD83 million by residential customers, USD41 million by the government, USD36 million by parastatals and USD10.6 million by local authorities. TelOne itself owes USD129 million to various suppliers, it says. Privately owned mobile market leader Econet Wireless recently revealed that it is owed more than USD25 million in interconnect fees by TelOne and its mobile sister company NetOne.
