Beeline taps Mavenir for IMS modernisation; seeks to develop VoLTE in Moscow, St Petersburg

16 Feb 2017

VimpelCom-backed Beeline Russia has announced that it has enlisted Mavenir Systems (now owned by Mitel) to collaborate on the joint development of its network, and in particular the modernisation of its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platform. The cooperation envisages the development of voice-over-LTE (VoLTE), and potentially voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) technology – depending on the level of commercial demand. Moscow and St Petersburg have been pinpointed for VoLTE activity, with the service likely to be extended to pre-paid as well as post-paid customers. Beeline introduced VoLTE for post-paid users on certain devices in Moscow in 2015.

The Mavenir agreement also provides for the development of B2B solutions including Cloud PBX on the IMS platform. The vendor contract covers the period until end-2020.
