Austria’s Telecom Control Commission (TKK) has published for consultation a draft decision on developing the regulatory framework for broadband expansion across the country. The regulator’s proposed decision has a particular focus on the framework for vectoring technology, which enables A1 Telekom Austria to offer higher connection speeds over its copper network, even in areas not yet covered by fibre-optic infrastructure. According to the TKK, the draft reflects the current requirements of the broadband market and will also contribute to the further development of fibre-optic network deployment across the country. The charges for network access by competitors have also been re-evaluated and their ongoing review process has been simplified.
Interested parties have been given until 17 March to comment on the draft decision, after which it will be submitted to the European Commission (EC) and other European regulatory authorities, before the TKK adopts a final decision.
