Zong to invest USD200m on 3G/4G expansion

China Mobile has announced plans to invest USD200 million on the expansion of the 3G and 4G networks of its Pakistani division, China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak) – which operates under the Zong brand name. ProPakistani writes that the company is planning to increase coverage in rural as well as urban areas, with the number of active 3G/4G cell sites set to reach 10,500 by the end of 2017. Zong’s 4G network currently has coverage of more than 300 towns and cities, and served a total of 2.274 million 4G subscribers at the end of December 2016, compared to just 282,701 users twelve months earlier.
