Telekom Austria Group’s Belarusian subsidiary Mobile Digital Communications (MDC), which trades in Belarus as velcom, reported solid growth in revenue, pre-tax profits and ARPU in Q4 2016, although subscriber numbers flat-lined at 4.945 million. The unit booked quarterly revenue of EUR90.6 million (USD97.5 million), up 9.3% when compared to the same period of 2015, while EBITDA climbed by 9.6% year-on-year to EUR40.6 million. Monthly blended ARPU, meanwhile, edged up to EUR4.6 in the period under review, from EUR4.2 in 4Q15 – marking a sustained performance for FY 2016, which saw blended ARPU dipping to EUR3.5 in the first quarter of the year. Finally, the Austrian parent also reported that following the successful acquisition of 100% of Belarusian fixed network operator Atlant Telecom and its subsidiary TeleSet from the private equity company ZUBR Capital and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in December 2016, it has seen a sharp rise in broadband subscribers. The pair had a combined subscriber base of approximately 125,700 broadband and 46,000 cable TV customers at the end of 2015, and posted full-year revenues of EUR16 million and EBITDA of EUR4 million. velcom closed out 2016 with a total of 171,000 high speed internet subscriptions, it said.
