Mobile operator Telkomsel has announced the rollout of 4G LTE services in Mandalika, which is located in Central Lombok regency, West Nusa Tenggara, as part of a drive to support the government’s bid to promote tourism there. The area is a key hotspot for the nation’s tourist industry and the cellco considers the presence of advanced telecoms infrastructure is ‘vital’ in underpinning the growth potential in that area of Indonesia. In a press statement, Telkomsel confirmed that as a result of the service expansion it can now provide coverage to almost 100% of the population in the Central Lombok regency, including critical areas such as Mandalika Kuta Beach, Panjai Serenting, Pantai Tanjung Aan, Keliuw Beach, and Gerupuk Beach. In total, meanwhile, Telkomsel’s 4G service has reached more than 70% of the population of Lombok, including Kota Mataram and Senggigi.
Going forward, Telkomsel now intends to carry out 4G network optimisation in another eleven tourist destinations, namely: Borobudur (Central Java), Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), Bromo-Tengger-Semeru (East Java), Seribu Islands (DKI Jakarta), Toba (North Sumatra), Wakatobi (Southeast Sulawesi), Tanjung Lesung (Banten), Morotai (Maluku Utara), Tanjung Kelayang (Bangka Belitung), Bunaken (North Sulawesi), and Raja Ampat (West Papua). According to IndoTelko the network optimisation will comprise new 4G base stations, better coverage and a transmission network capacity upgrade.
