Mediacom acquires Alabama's Andy Cable

23 Jan 2017

Mediacom, the United States’ sixth largest cable broadband provider by subscribers, has finalised the acquisition of Alabama-based operator TV Cable of Andalusia, which trades as Andy Cable. The company is thought to serve around 14,000 customers. Ivan Bishop, whose father founded the cableco in 1965, told the Andalusia Star News: ‘It’s a challenge for an independent operator to keep up with the technology and the changes going on in our industry.’

According to the newspaper, the cable duo boast complimentary network footprints, with Mediacom currently serving a number of communities west of Andalusia, including Brewton, Atmore, Monroeville, Thomasville and parts of the Mobile area. Previously, Andy Cable was in the M&A driving seat when it acquired Clearview Cable back in 2004, and Opp CableVision in 2015.
