You know when you’ve been Tangoed: SpeedNet taps Irish vendor for CDMA-GSM switch

20 Jan 2017

Belizean mobile operator SpeedNet Communications, which trades as Smart, has enlisted Limerick-based solutions vendor Tango Telecom to deploy its Subscriber Interaction Manager platform as part of an upgrade deal. According to a press release, the solution will enable SpeedNet to transform its network from the legacy CDMA standard to GSM with minimum disruption. Ernesto Torres, CEO of SpeedNet, commented: ‘This feature-rich solution offers us a smooth migration path to next generation services and provides our subscribers with an enhanced quality of experience based on new and innovative services.’

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, SpeedNet switched on its original CDMA2000 1x network back in March 2005, before upgrading to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A technology in late 2012. More recently, the company launched a 4G LTE network in December 2015.
