Mediacom unveils 1Gbps service in Iowa

20 Jan 2017

US cable company Mediacom Communications has announced the launch of a 1Gbps broadband internet service across its entire Iowa network footprint. Nearly one million households in over 300 communities passed by Mediacom’s network in Iowa will be able to access the new high speed ‘Gigasphere’ service, following the cableco’s full transition to a DOCSIS 3.1 platform. Mediacom says it aims to bring gigabit broadband services to ‘virtually all’ of the three million homes and businesses it serves across its 22 state footprint. As DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems become more readily available in the marketplace, the firm will announce additional 1Gbps internet launches on a market by market basis throughout the remainder of the year. Alongside each 1Gbps launch, Mediacom will also introduce a new 500Mbps tier of service.
