Cablevision, Argentina’s largest broadband provider by subscribers, has enlisted US vendor Ciena to help it meet the surging demand for data by supplying its suite of converged packet optical solutions, including the 6500 Packet-Optical Platform. The solution effectively doubles the capacity of Cablevision’s metro network to 200G, and can be seamlessly scaled to higher capacity wavelengths, such as 400G, when required. Ciena notes that the same 6500 platform will be deployed across the cableco’s long-haul and regional networks. Guillermo Fiorenza, Head of Transport and Network Solutions at Cablevision, commented: ‘In order to launch our new IPTV Project Flow and give our customers anytime and anywhere access to the programming they want it was crucial to have the right infrastructure in place.’
Cablevision is present in twelve provinces and 90 cities across Argentina. Its network spans 50,000km, and is connected through an urban fibre-optic grid extending more than 12,600km. The company has also developed and broadened an intercity backbone that stretches 9,500km, which, along with its core and metro networks, connects the interior regions of the country.
