RTR begins preparations for 5G frequency allocation

17 Jan 2017

Austria’s Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting & Telecoms (RTR) has revealed that it is preparing an award procedure for the 3400MHz-3800MHz frequency band, which has been designated for 5G mobile broadband services. In line with its spectrum release plan, the regulator expects to publish the tender document at the end of 2017 or in early 2018, with a view to commencing the auction in Q2 2018. In addition, the RTR has earmarked the 700MHz band for 5G services and plans to make these frequencies available to operators from July 2020. ‘We are already working intensively on preparing the allocation of frequencies for this standard and conducted a public consultation in the spring of 2016,’ noted RTR Managing Director Johannes Gungl.
