Telia Sweden has announced the latest batches of new rollouts of gigabit fibre connections for single-dwelling households on its Telia Open Fibre network via its wholesale network arm Skanova. The rollouts mentioned in the telco’s latest releases encompass 7,100 premises in the following areas: Hassleholm (2,700 ‘detached homes and businesses’ in four towns); 1,000 in Norrtalje (one town); 700 in Vallentuna (four towns); 1,500 in Katrineholm (four towns); and 1,200 premises across Harnosand, Enkoping, Ange, Sigtuna, Sodertalje and Orebro.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Telia earmarked a potential SEK12 billion (USD1.3 billion) investment between 2015 and 2018 as it continues its rollout of super-fast fibre broadband, and the new technology will provide homeowners and businesses with connection speeds of up to 1Gbps. The continued expansion is set to begin in April and is projected to be completed by October 2017.
