3 Sweden to launch VoLTE

12 Jan 2017

Swedish mobile operator Hi3G Access Sweden (3) has announced that it is launching voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) services for its customers. The new technology provides faster call set-up and better sound quality for users, and 3 claims to be the first company to offer VoLTE in Sweden. Commenting on the company’s plans, 3 Sweden CEO Johan Johansson stated: ‘It is important for us to remain at the forefront of technology to make life easier for our customers, while future-proofing the network for tomorrow’s exciting opportunities. VoLTE is an example of such a technique.’

The first handset that will have access to VoLTE will be the Sony Xperia XZ, followed by further Sony models, as well as Huawei and Samsung devices. Initially 3’s VoLTE will be made available to private customers who registered their interest in the new technology via the company’s ‘Beta’ programme, a forum designed for subscribers to trial new products and services before they are released to all customers. The Beta trial period began on 11 January and will last up until 28 February 2017.
