Nokia unit’s SDN platform supporting China Mobile’s massive public cloud server deployment

10 Jan 2017

Nuage Networks, part of Nokia Networks, has announced that China Mobile selected its Virtualised Services Platform (VSP) to implement its first commercial public cloud project based on software defined networking (SDN) technology. According to the release, China Mobile needed a highly scalable SDN solution for a massive deployment of around 2,000 public cloud servers in Beijing and Guangzhou. The VSP enables China Mobile to virtualise its multi-tenant datacentre networks whilst providing additional features to customers; as a result it can implement new datacentres ‘ten times faster’ than with physical deployments, and reduce operating expenses by ‘up to 50%’. The latest deal builds on last year’s deployment of Nuage Networks’ SDN technology in China Mobile’s DevOps private cloud architecture, whilst the cellco has been rapidly expanding its network of datacentres.
