Icelandic telecoms operator Vodafone Iceland (Fjarskipti) has revealed that potential users in the northern parts of the country could now subscribe to fibre-optic services with maximum downlink speeds of 500Mbps. The operator said that the premium speeds are currently available in the villages of Akureyri and Dalvik, and the municipalities of Thingeyjarsveit, Grenivik and Eyjafjardarsveit.
TeleGeography notes that Vodafone is by far the largest fibre-based access provider in Iceland, and it offers its services using infrastructure provided by three firms, namely Gagnaveitu Reykjavikur (GR), Gagnaveitu Skagafjardar (purchased by wholesale provider Mila in April 2013) and Tengis.
