Hungary’s largest fixed and mobile operator Magyar Telekom has disclosed that its 4G LTE user base grew by 44% in twelve months to nearly 1.4 million at the end of 2016, or over a quarter of its total mobile base. The company also announced that by the end of the year 70% of its total mobile data traffic was on the 4G network. Furthermore, Magyar Telekom reported that its 4G LTE (outdoor) network coverage reached 98% of the population by end-2016, with indoor coverage reaching 87.2%. Ongoing LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) upgrades meant that ‘4G+’ maximum (theoretical) data speeds of 300Mbps reached nearly 25% population coverage (outdoor) by the same date, with a 4G+ presence in over 40 cities/towns.
