O2 Slovakia exceeded its initial target of covering 66% of the population with its 4G network by the end of 2016, instead achieving coverage of 70%. This improved figure came as a result of intensive network expansion from September to the end of December 2016, with the company adding 231 new base station sites across Slovakia during that period. In December a further 18 towns and villages were equipped with O2’s 4G LTE network, as well as the D1 motorway and the R1 speedway.
O2 Slovakia CEO Peter Gazik stated: ‘I am proud to say that we have achieved 70% coverage of the population with our 4G LTE signal. For 2016 we set ourselves the objective of increasing coverage from 25% to 66%. We are pleased that we not only succeeded in reaching this goal, but exceeded it. These ambitions continue next year, and we want cover at least 80% of the population.’ Customers using O2’s 4G network will have access to theoretical download speeds of up to 73Mbps, with actual speeds of 23Mbps, while upload speeds of 15Mbps are available.
