ArmenTel (Beeline) expands 4G network; launches 4G roaming

14 Dec 2016

Armenian fixed and mobile operator ArmenTel, which trades under the Beeline banner of its Russian parent VimpelCom, has announced the latest expansion of its new 4G LTE network in the capital Yerevan, and confirmed the launch of 4G roaming with no fewer than 15 network operators in 13 countries – including Georgia, Italy, Canada, China, Russia and the United States. The company says that since it launched the 4G network in September this year it has doubled the number of base transceiver stations (BTS) in service to a total of approximately 140.

ArmenTel launched what it termed was a pilot-commercial LTE network in the central districts of the capital in early September, deploying 70 4G-equipped BTS, with plans to boost the total to 150 BTS before the end of 2016. The carrier says its new advanced network currently offers peak mobile internet speeds of up to 60Mbps.
