Telikom PNG will deploy both 3G and 4G services in remote rural regions after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West New Britain Provincial Government, EMTV Online reports. With the West New Britain authorities said to have presented the telco with a cheque for PGK200,000 (USD62,0000) for the installation of infrastructure on Bali Island, it was noted that such investment is line with the former’s previously stated aim of extending communications services, with a view to benefiting at least 10,000 people.
According to the report, the entire project is valued at around PGK1.2 million, with Telikom PNG’s Group General Manager Engineering Jefferey Bean claiming it will enhance communication in the province, saying: ‘This is the same as upgrading a road, enabling rural areas to get connected. What it means with the new 3G and 4G is almost endless possibilities; getting alerts tsunami warnings, online banking in a real time scenario.’
