Telenet and ZTE achieve ‘record’ Pre5G speeds

13 Dec 2016

Global telecommunications solutions provider ZTE has teamed up with Belgian operator Telenet to complete an outfield Pre5G test, claiming to be the first in Europe to achieve download speeds of 1.3Gbps. The demonstration was based on four commercial spectrum bands, combined with Pre5G technologies including massive carrier aggregation (CA), 4×4 MIMO and 256 QAM. ZTE and Telenet are working on strengthening their long-term partnership, and the Pre5G testing paves the way for future 5G technology for the Belgian company.

The duo aim to finish Pre5G deployment in urban areas in 2017, including at large-scale events, such as the Tomorrowland music festival. Micha Berger, CTO of Telenet said of the Pre5G test: ‘We’re very excited about the results of this test, because the new speed record is a milestone on the way to 5G. The Pre5G networks are faster and provide higher capacity, improving mobile users’ broadband experience, especially in areas with high cell phone traffic.’
