Telenor’s ‘deep indoor’ LTE coverage to hit 84.9% by year-end in Budapest

9 Dec 2016

Hungary’s second largest cellco by subscribers, Telenor Hungary, has announced that it expects its ‘deep indoor’ 4G coverage to reach 84.9% in the capital Budapest by the end of 2016. This means that many of the city’s previously ‘inaccessible’ places, such as basement bars and restaurants, can experience 4G connection speeds. Telenor’s nationwide LTE coverage currently stands at 98% of Hungarian households, and the company has switched on 4G+ technology at 650 base stations across the country this year. 4G+ offers download speeds of up to 300Mbps on LTE-Advanced (LTE-A)-enabled devices.

Telenor plans to further expand its deep indoor coverage beyond Budapest to as many new cities as possible, in order to offer its ‘Hipernet’ data network as a faster alternative for current fixed line internet customers. The company already expanded its 4G indoor coverage in the capital from 37.87% in early 2016 to 67.32% by the end of October, and is on course to increase this coverage to 84.9% by the close of December.
