Lebanon’s telecoms minister Boutros Harb has claimed that ‘85% of the population’ will have access to fibre-optic broadband services by the end of 2017. As reported by Lebanese paper The Daily Star, Mr Harb told a conference at the American University of Beirut that the deployment of fibre-optics in the centre of main cities was already in full swing under a five-year state-backed programme to ‘fully cover’ the country with fibre broadband access facilities by the end of 2020.
