NT looking for strategic investor

5 Dec 2016

Nepal Telecom (NT) has revived its hunt for a strategic partner and is looking to appoint a consultancy firm to help with the search, the Kathmandu Post writes. The state-owned fixed and mobile operator is hoping to attract an international investor to help it grow and modernise its business and improve efficiency. NT previously selected Analysys Mason as its consultant in 2014, but the contract was cancelled following an anti-corruption investigation; a new contract with the same firm is now expected to be signed as early as next week. It is thought that the government is looking to bring its stake in NT down to around 60%, from 91.49% currently; the remaining shares are held by employees, the public and the Citizen Investment Trust.
