Internet Solutions to acquire MultiChoice’s consumer unit MWEB Connect

5 Dec 2016

Internet Solutions (IS), the wholly owned division of Dimension Data (Middle East & Africa), has revealed that it agreed to acquire ISP MWEB Connect from MultiChoice for an undisclosed sum, thus marking its entry into the consumer broadband market. The move follows the December 2014 deal under which IS acquired MultiChoice’s enterprise units MWEB Business, Optinet Service Division and Optinet Network Division, in addition to entering into a new joint venture with MultiChoice called WirelessCo (now Vast Networks) to build and operate an open-access, carrier-grade Wi-Fi network. IS said that the new transaction – which is subject to regulatory approval from the Competition Commission – is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.

Saki Missaikos, managing director at Internet Solutions, said: ‘MWEB is one of South Africa’s largest consumer ISPs and this acquisition will immediately give Internet Solutions a presence in the large and rapidly growing consumer market.’
