5 Dec 2016

Mauritanian mobile and fixed-wireless operator Chinguitel has completed the first phase of a government-backed project to connect rural areas in the north of the country. The MRO600 million (USD1.7 million) ‘Northern Telecommunications’ scheme is being funded by Mauritania’s Agency for the Promotion of Universal Service Access (L’Agence de Promotion de l’Acces Universel aux Services, APAUS). Chinguitel has deployed eleven base stations to cover northern communities including Bentili Ain, Bir Moghrein and Zoueirate, Agence Ecofin writes. Phase Two of the project is already underway.
