TDC achieves 1Gbps speeds over live mobile network

2 Dec 2016

Danish telecoms provider TDC (trading as YouSee) has revealed that it has trialled gigabit services over its live mobile network at the Copenhagen Central Station, in cooperation with ‘a number of other players’. TDC said that the trial zone will be extended to selected areas around the Tivoli amusement park and other locations in central Copenhagen throughout 2017.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in June 2016 TDC trialled the technology with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei, thus ‘taking a giant step towards the next generation of mobile networks, 5G.’ The companies achieved the 1Gbps speeds by using three frequency bands, coupled with MIMO 4×4 technology and 256 QAM. TDC expects the technology will become commercially available during the course of 2017, once compatible devices hit the market.
