Windstream expands metro fibre in Philadelphia

1 Dec 2016

US telecoms operator Windstream has announced a major expansion of its advanced metro fibre network in Philadelphia. The rollout forms part of the telco’s multi-city project to connect more data centres and commercial buildings to its national backbone. Last month, Windstream announced a major expansion of its 100G long-haul express fibre transport network throughout the Western United States, including Salt Lake City, Reno, Las Vegas and the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area. Brian Norton, regional president for Windstream, commented: ‘Our expansion in Philadelphia is part of a previously disclosed USD50 million investment that Windstream is making this year to upgrade our high speed fibre network infrastructure, including both our long-haul network nationwide and our metro fibre networks in specific markets.’
