17 Nov 2016

Claro Puerto Rico has announced that its new LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network is now live in 61 different locations across 30 municipalities, delivering download speeds of up to 100Mbps to end-users. Towns and cities covered as a result of the rollout include: Carolina, Ponce, Penuelas, Aibonito, Yauco, Cidra, Villalba, Guayanilla, Bayamon, San Juan, Humacao, Naguabo, Morovis, Florida, Utuado, Santurce, Las Piedras, Toa Baja, Toa Alta, Hormigueros, Culebra, Barranquitas, Orocovis, Aguas Buenas, Caguas, Trujillo Alto, Hatillo, Cayey, Vega Baja and Isabela. The LTE-A upgrade will be completed on a nationwide basis by end-2017, the operator notes.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Claro and Ericsson tested LTE-A technology over the cellco’s commercial mobile network late last month, incorporating a 4×4 MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) platform. It is believed that the new network aggregates spectrum in the 700MHz and 2100MHz/1700MHz AWS bands.
