Saudi quartet receive unified telecoms concessions

Saudi Arabia’s telecoms regulator the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has confirmed that it has awarded mobile network operators and ISPs – namely Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), Zain Saudi and Etihad Atheeb (GO Telecom) – with unified telecoms licences, thus allowing them to provide mobile, fixed telephony and data services. The new licensing system will allow increased competition and subscriber options through enhancing network efficiency and cutting costs, the CITC said in a press release.

Earlier this month, the government issued Royal Decree No. 61534 directing the CITC to provide the kingdom’s operators with unified telecoms licences and to extend their licensing periods by 15 years.
