Telecom Personal Paraguay has registered 250,000 active users on its LTE network, BNAmericas reports. The milestone coincides with a report from Ultima Hora that the cellco plans to invest USD40 million in Paraguay on an annual basis as it builds out its wireless infrastructure. Personal currently operates a network comprising 1,500 base transceiver stations (BTS), which it expects to augment with a further 600 cell sites over the next three years. The investment targets were revealed following meetings between company representatives and government officials.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Personal opted out of the government’s 2100MHz/1700MHz AWS spectrum auction in December 2015, and then pipped its rivals Claro and Tigo to the post by activating a 1900MHz LTE network in capital Asuncion just days later.
