US-based network service providers CenturyLink and Level 3 Communications are reportedly in advanced talks to merge, with the deal set to create an enterprise telecoms player worth more than USD50 billion (including debt), Reuters reports. According to people familiar with the matter, the merger could be announced as soon as next week.
TeleGeography notes that CenturyLink provides broadband, voice, video, data and managed services over a robust 250,000-route-mile US fibre network and a 300,000-route-mile international transport network, while Colorado-based Level 3 Communications provides core transport, IP, voice, video, and content delivery for medium-to-large internet carriers in North America, Latin America, Europe, and selected cities in Asia over its Tier 1 network.
