Digicel Cayman completes LTE upgrade

27 Oct 2016

Digicel Cayman Islands has completed ‘significant’ upgrades to its LTE network in the Cayman Islands, boosting speeds in the George Town, Savannah, West Bay and Northward areas and expanding coverage to Prospect. The Cayman Compass cites a spokesperson for the company as saying that it had spent USD2 million on maintaining and upgrading the 4G network over the last two years in response to rapidly growing demand for data services, adding that over the last twelve months alone, the cellco had experienced a six-fold increase in traffic over the system.

Commenting on the development, Digicel’s CTO Raul Nicholson-Coe said: ‘As the world goes increasingly digital, we have had to constantly evolve our infrastructure and that means adding LTE capacity to existing sites, plus rolling out LTE into new areas such as Prospect. We are committed to allowing our customers to experience more, and that means working furiously to give out customers the fastest network in Cayman.’
