Wind-3 merger gets final clearance

25 Oct 2016

Hong Kong’s CK Hutchison and Russian-backed, Amsterdam-based VimpelCom have announced that the proposed merger of their Italian operations has now received the final regulatory clearance from Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development (Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, MdSE). The 50:50 joint venture will combine Hutchison’s 3 Italia with VimpelCom’s Wind Telecomunicazioni in a deal which will create the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers. The tie-up was approved by the European Commission (EC) in early September and is due to be completed by the end of this year, with the enlarged entity expected to be relaunched at the start of January.
