Nepal Telecom gets final 4G approval; free to launch from 1 January

25 Oct 2016

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has approved Nepal Telecom’s (NT’s) application to use its existing 1800MHz spectrum licences to offer 4G LTE services. The telco submitted its work plan to the regulator earlier this month, and this has now been rubber stamped, with just one alteration; NT’s proposed 4G launch date of 15 December has been pushed back to 1 January 2017. A similar application by NT’s rival Ncell is still being studied by the NTA. NT has previously said that it will initially roll out 4G networks in the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara areas, before moving on to other cities.
